With temperatures above 100 degress most of this summer, when I saw an overhead door company at the Austin Home & Garden show last week I questioned the salesperson about it. The figures he gave me were impressive. Since we have a refrigerator in the garage, as well as going in and out several times a day for recycling, etc, I was very interested. When the temperature outside is 100 deg, it can be as hot as 140 deg inside if the door/ with windows faces west.
So, today I am having my garage doors insulated. End of summer, I know, but I think there will be some savings in the winter too. Our house was built in the 80's, so any insulation is a good thing. Our door also has windows all across one row, and he told me upon arrival that it will not be insulated as well on that row, but that radiant barrier is what will help there, or window film. I told him, I do windows, I am sure I can figure that part out! After receiving the largest electric bill of the year two weeks ago, we will definitely be watching, and looking for some savings. I will keep it posted here, for posterity!
Still looking for our next project. .....
